Description
Sweet and salty Caramel Pretzel Bites are perfect for snacking.
Ingredients

- 2 teaspoons butter, softened
- 4 cups pretzel sticks
- 2–1/2 cups pecan halves, toasted
- 2–1/4 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 cup butter, cubed
- 1 cup corn syrup
- 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 package (11-1/2 ounces) milk chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon shortening, divided
- 1/3 cup white baking chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Spread softened butter on a large baking sheet.
- Arrange pretzel sticks in a single layer on prepared sheet.
- Top with pecan halves.
- In a heavy saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, corn syrup, condensed milk, and salt.
- Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
- Cook and stir for 5 minutes, or until a candy thermometer reads 235°F.
- Remove from heat; stir in vanilla.
- Pour caramel mixture over pretzels and pecans.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until caramel is bubbly.
- Remove from oven and let cool completely.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt milk chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon shortening; stir until smooth.
- Spread over cooled caramel.
- In another microwave-safe bowl, melt white baking chips and 1 teaspoon shortening; stir until smooth.
- Drizzle over milk chocolate layer.
- Let stand until set, or refrigerate for faster setting.
- Break into pieces.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
- Use different nuts or candies for variation.
- Watch carefully while cooking the caramel to prevent burning.
