- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 2/3 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- For the frosting: 8 oz cream cheese, softened; 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened; 4 cups powdered sugar; 2 tsp vanilla extract; 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
- Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the frosting: In a bowl, cream together cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually beat in powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in vanilla and cinnamon.
- Frost cooled cake layers.
