Description
Enjoy homemade cinnamon rolls with a sweet dough, brown sugar filling, and cream cheese frosting.

- 1 cup whole milk, warm
- 1 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 5 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 3 & 1/4 cups all purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 cup butter, 1 stick, very soft (divided)
- 1/4 cup butter, 1/2 stick, barely melted
- 1/4 cup cream
- 5 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3/4 cup butter, 1 & 1/2 sticks, very soft
- 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2–3/4 teaspoon cardamom, optional
- 1 (8-oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup butter, 1 stick, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
- Make the sweet dough: Warm milk, add yeast and sugar, let stand for 5 minutes.
- Add eggs and whisk until smooth.
- Combine flour and salt in a bowl.
- Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix.
- Add butter gradually and mix until incorporated.
- Beat on medium low speed for 5 minutes until dough is silky.
- Grease a bowl, add dough, cover, and refrigerate for 2 hours or up to 2 days.
- Prepare the pan: Melt butter, add cream and brown sugar, and spread in the pan.
- Prepare the filling: Combine butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and cardamom.
- Boil water and prepare oven with a water bath.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface.
- Spread filling on dough.
- Roll up the dough and seal.
- Cut into rolls and place in the prepared pan.
- Cover with sprayed plastic wrap.
- Let rise in the warm oven for 45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
- Make the cream cheese frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until fluffy. Add powdered sugar and salt and beat well.
- Let rolls cool, then spread with frosting.
Notes
- Chilling the dough is essential.
- Use an 11×17 inch baking sheet for best results.
- Cardamom is recommended for the filling.
- Do not skip spraying plastic wrap.
- Use a thermometer to check internal temperature.
