Description
A traditional Dutch apple pie featuring cinnamon-spiced apples and a buttery crumb topping.

- 6–8 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 box (14.1 ounces) refrigerated pie crusts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine apple slices, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Line a 9-inch pie plate with one pie crust.
- Pour apple mixture into the crust.
- In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup flour and brown sugar. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over the apple filling.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Let cool completely before serving.
Notes
- Use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor.
- Add a tablespoon of lemon juice to the apples to prevent browning.
- Cover the edges of the crust with foil during the last 15 minutes of baking to prevent burning.
