Description

Crinkle Cake is a sweet and flaky dessert made with phyllo dough and a custard filling.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound phyllo dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Butter a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. Unroll phyllo dough and cover with a damp towel to prevent drying.
  4. Take one sheet of phyllo, crinkle it like an accordion, and place it in the baking dish. Repeat with remaining phyllo.
  5. Pour melted butter evenly over the crinkled phyllo.
  6. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, milk, vanilla, baking powder, and salt.
  7. Pour custard mixture evenly over the phyllo.
  8. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts, if desired.
  9. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown and custard is set.
  10. Let cool completely before cutting and serving.
