Description

A classic Gingerbread Loaf recipe, perfect for the holidays or any time you crave a warm, spiced treat.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine sugar, molasses, oil, and eggs. Beat well.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  7. Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark molasses.
  • You can add chopped nuts or dried fruit to the batter.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
