Festive Gingerbread Wreath for holiday celebrations.
Ingredients

- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 3/4 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Royal icing
- Assorted candies for decoration
Instructions
- In a large bowl, cream together brown sugar, shortening, and butter. Beat in egg and molasses.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Divide dough in half. Wrap each half in plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out one portion of dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
- Cut out wreath shape using a template or freehand.
- Place wreath on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned.
- Let cool completely on a wire rack.
- Decorate with royal icing and assorted candies.
