Description

Festive Gingerbread Wreath for holiday celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Royal icing
  • Assorted candies for decoration

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together brown sugar, shortening, and butter. Beat in egg and molasses.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Divide dough in half. Wrap each half in plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one portion of dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
  7. Cut out wreath shape using a template or freehand.
  8. Place wreath on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned.
  10. Let cool completely on a wire rack.
  11. Decorate with royal icing and assorted candies.
