Description

Make your own delicious French croissants at home with this recipe.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon (10g) salt
  • 1 tablespoon (10g) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups (300ml) warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, cold and shaped into a flat square
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Dissolve yeast in warm milk. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Add milk-yeast and melted butter to dry ingredients. Knead until smooth.
  4. Shape dough into a rectangle. Wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  5. Shape cold butter into a 6-inch square.
  6. Roll chilled dough into a 12-inch square.
  7. Place butter block diagonally in the center.
  8. Fold dough corners over butter.
  9. Roll into an 8×20 inch rectangle.
  10. Fold into thirds. Wrap and chill for 30 minutes.

Notes

  • Ensure butter is cold but pliable.
  • Chill dough properly between turns.
