Description

A warm, comforting Southern Chocolate Cobbler with a fudgy center and slightly crisp top.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar (divided)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water
  • Optional: 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
  • Optional: 1/4 cup toasted pecans or walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt the butter in an 8×8 or 9×9 inch baking dish in the oven.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until combined.
  5. Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish without stirring.
  6. Sprinkle sugar, cocoa powder, and hot water over the top of the batter without stirring.
  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes until the edges are set but the middle remains slightly jiggly.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
