Ingredients

- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar (divided)
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot water
- Optional: 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
- Optional: 1/4 cup toasted pecans or walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Melt the butter in an 8×8 or 9×9 inch baking dish in the oven.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until combined.
- Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish without stirring.
- Sprinkle sugar, cocoa powder, and hot water over the top of the batter without stirring.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes until the edges are set but the middle remains slightly jiggly.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use real butter for the best flavor.
- Use a good quality cocoa powder.
- A pinch of salt enhances flavors.
